Dakota Child & Family Clinic is hosting an after school program for African American high school students called “It’s Complicated.”
The curriculum for “It’s Complicated” was developed with the support of a Community Advisory Board that met to identify barriers for mental health services experienced within the African American community. This program is made possible by a Minnesota Department of Behavioral Health block grant.
This group was planned in late 2019 for the 2020-2021 school year however after the senseless death of George Floyd we have decided to start in July of 2020 and use the first 2 months for support and relationship building. We will be meeting on Zoom over the summer and into the fall.
All students will receive a journal and pens, “Humanize My Hoodie” sweatshirt and books or movies discussed in the program. We will also be providing a meal at each in-person meeting.
Jason Sole – Author and Professor – Prison to PH.D, co-founder of “Humanize My Hoodie”
